Meaning
This sacred Durga Stotram is composed by Lord Mahadeva himself, acknowledging Goddess Durga as the supreme, eternal and all-pervading power. Shiva praises her as the destroyer of difficulties, the savior of devotees and the compassionate Mother of the universe.
She is Vishnu Maya, Narayani, the embodiment of Brahman and the form of eternal bliss. She is both the cause of creation and the supreme power beyond creation. She is the mother of the Vedas, Savitri, and the supreme Lakshmi in Vaikuntha, the earthly Lakshmi among mortals, the celestial Lakshmi in heaven and the Naga-Lakshmi in Patala.
Durga is worshipped as the presiding energy in all realms – in homes as Grihadevata, in fields as fertility, in fire as heat, in water as coolness, in the sun as radiance, in the moon as beauty and in the earth as fragrance. She is knowledge, intellect, compassion, sleep, desire, peace, joy, nourishment, modesty and divine grace.
She is Radha in Goloka, Vrinda in Vrindavan, the enchantress of rasa-mandala, and the essential energy of Krishna. She is the cause of both bondage and liberation, bhukti and mukti.
Shiva declares that even a thousand tongues cannot fully praise her; even Saraswati, Brahma and Vishnu cannot fathom her infinite nature. In deep devotion he prays for the destruction of enemies and the removal of difficulties.
The stotram reveals Durga’s universal presence, cosmic authority and boundless compassion. Chanting it brings divine protection and the grace of the Supreme Mother.
