Varuna Krita Shiva Stotram

This Shiva Stotram composed by Varuna praises Lord Sundareswara of Madurai (Halasya Kshetra). Shiva is described as the divine archer whose bow is made from sacred mountains and whose bowstring consists of mighty serpents. He is the protector of the earth, the refuge of devotees, and the eternal resident of Halasya.

Shiva destroys the suffering of His devotees. Adorned with the blue mark of poison on His neck, He shines like a dark rain cloud. As the Lord of all beings and cause of the three worlds, He is the compassionate supreme. His lotus feet, unattainable even for Brahma and other gods, are the source of liberation. His form is radiant, filled with divine light.

He wanders through kadamba forests, ever accompanied by Goddess Parvati as His left half, symbolizing perfect union. He is the destroyer of Time itself and the ocean of compassion. Worshipped by gods like Indra, Shiva grants knowledge, purity, and the highest spiritual wealth.

He bestows prosperity, destroys sorrow, and grants wisdom. He is the soul of all beings and the remover of all forms of grief. Worshipped by Gandharvas and Kinnaras with sweet music, He shines majestically with the Ganga on His matted locks.

Varuna concludes by recalling how Shiva blessed the Pandya king of Madurai, known as Sundara Pandya, making him a glorious ruler. Finally, Varuna humbly prays that Shiva accept this hymn as an offering of devotion, even if it may fall short of expressing His infinite greatness.
