Sri Vaidyanatha Ashtakam

The “Sri Vaidyanathashtakam” praises Lord Vaidyanatha—Shiva in His divine form as the supreme healer. He is worshipped by Rama, Lakshmana, Jatayu, Subrahmanya, Surya, and Kuja. As the compassionate Neelakantha, He removes all forms of suffering and grants healing to all beings.

The hymn describes Him as the three-eyed Lord who holds the Ganga in His matted locks, the destroyer of Kama and Kala, and the one adored by all gods. He manifests directly in the human world to bless devotees and eliminate evil.

He is beloved by devotees, the destroyer of Tripurasura, the wielder of the Pinaka bow, and the remover of all wickedness. He is the destroyer of diseases arising from vata, pitta, and kapha and is praised by great sages.

Lord Vaidyanatha brings speech, vision, hearing, and movement even to beings deprived of them. He cures leprosy and all severe disorders. He is the supreme Brahman known through Vedanta, worshipped by yogis, and the embodiment of the Trimurti, having a thousand divine names.

He removes fear, sorrow, and negative forces. He blesses devotees with the sacred mud of His divine tirtha and grants spiritual and physical well-being. As Neelakantha and Vrishadhvaja, He bestows good progeny, family welfare, and prosperity.

The final verse declares that chanting the three sacred names—Bālāmīkeśa, Vaidyeśa, Bhavarogahara—daily destroys great diseases and brings complete healing.
