Meaning
The “Shiva Panchakshari Mantra with Nyasa” is one of the most complete and powerful ritual methods in Shaivism. The mantra Om Namah Shivaya, composed of five sacred syllables, is installed systematically throughout the body through Nyasa. This process purifies the body, awakens inner energy, strengthens devotion, and aligns the devotee with Shiva’s consciousness.
The ritual begins with Achamana, invoking Shiva’s divine names to purify speech, mind, and being. The “Viniyoga” declares the purpose of the mantra—attaining the four aims of life: Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha.
Rishi-Nyasa aligns the mantra with its seer, meter, and deity, sanctifying the body.
Kara-Nyasa places each syllable on the fingers, empowering all actions.
Hridaya-Nyasa places the energies of Shiva—heart, head, crown, armor, third eye, and weapon—on key spiritual centers.
The Panchamurti Nyasa installs the five cosmic aspects of Shiva: Tatpurusha, Aghora, Sadyojata, Vamadeva, and Ishana.
The dhyana visualizes Shiva seated in splendor—five-faced, three-eyed, serene, adorned with the moon, holding the axe and deer, and radiating fearlessness.
Finally, the mantra Om Namah Shivaya is chanted, the essence of pure consciousness, dissolving ego, purifying karma, and awakening spiritual realization.
