Sri Shiva Navaratna Stava

The “Shiva Navaratna Stava,” composed by Brihaspati, is a brilliant hymn comprising nine verses—each resembling a radiant jewel, glorifying one supreme aspect of Lord Shiva. Every verse praises Shiva as the embodiment of deeper truth, supreme compassion, yogic mastery, cosmic authority, and the liberating principle behind creation.

The hymn begins by saluting Shiva as the destroyer of illusion, the wielder of the trident, the giver of spiritual wisdom, the Lord of all beings and all worlds. He is praised as pure, compassionate, radiant like the Vedas, the one who grants the knowledge of Vedanta.

Shiva is described as Rudra, the cosmic form underlying everything, the support and substratum of the universe. He is the remover of bondage, the conqueror of time, the one beyond time itself.
He is the master of self-control, destroyer of sin, purifier of the impious, the Lord of Parvati, and the supreme Yogi cherished by all yogis.

Verses describe his divine presence from the Muladhara upwards to the heart, culminating in the experience of Shiva as the complete, infinite, blissful Self—Satchidananda. The final verse salutes him as the wondrous, immortal, all-pervading Lord.

The phalaśruti declares that those who recite this hymn daily with devotion attain liberation effortlessly. Students gain learning, householders gain marriage and stability, and seekers of renunciation attain true detachment. This is a powerful stotra for dissolving worldly suffering and granting divine grace.
