Sri Durga Saptashloki

Durga Saptashloki is the essence of the entire Devi Mahatmyam. When Lord Shiva asks Devi for a simple, powerful method for success in Kali Yuga, she reveals these seven verses as the most accessible and potent remedy for all problems. These shlokas contain the combined power of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati.

The first verse explains that the Goddess, as Mahamaya, can draw even the minds of the wise into illusion, indicating her supreme control over the universe. Remembering her as “Durga” instantly destroys fears, obstacles, poverty, sorrow, and negative influences. When remembered in calmness, she bestows auspiciousness, clarity, good fortune, and protection.

The middle verses praise her as the embodiment of all auspiciousness, the fulfiller of desires, the ultimate refuge and savior of the distressed. She is Narayani, the supreme cosmic energy, removing suffering from all beings.

The fifth and sixth verses assure that she removes diseases, grants desired boons, protects her devotees, and never abandons anyone who surrenders to her. Those who seek refuge in her will always find safety.

The final verse sums it up —
She removes all troubles from the three worlds and destroys the enemies (inner & outer) of her devotees.

It is believed that chanting these seven verses is equivalent to chanting the full Devi Mahatmyam.
