Sri Durga Kavacham

In this Durga Devi Kavacham, Lord Ishwara Himself explains a divine protective shield that grants complete safety and fulfillment of desires. He states that anyone who properly understands, recites, and teaches this kavacha becomes free from all dangers and distress. However, one who chants Durga mantras without knowing this kavacha does not attain the expected results and may even face negative consequences in the afterlife.

The kavacham describes how Goddess Durga protects every part of the devotee’s body in different sacred forms. Uma Devi guards the head, Shooladharini protects the forehead, Khechari shields the eyes, and Chaturavasini safeguards the ears. Sugandha protects the nose, Sarvadharini the face, and Chandika the tongue. Saubhadhrika protects the throat.

The mind is protected by Ashokavasini, the arms by Vajradharinī, the heart by Lalita Devi, and the abdomen by Simhavahini. The waist is guarded by Bhagavati, the thighs by Vindhyavasini, the shanks by Mahabala, and the feet by Bhutalavasini. The hymn praises Durga as the guardian of all three worlds and prays for protection of the devotee’s entire being.

This kavacham, originating from the Kubjika Tantra, is a powerful spiritual armor. It assures that one who sincerely wears this divine shield is completely protected from negative energies, fears, dangers, unseen forces, and misfortunes of life.
