Rati Devi Krita Shiva Stotram

This beautiful hymn composed by Rati Devi praises Lord Shiva as the supreme refuge, the ocean of compassion, and the fulfiller of all desires. She begins by saluting Shiva—the pure one, the lord of the mind, adored by the gods, and the ever-kind protector of His devotees.

Shiva is addressed as the source of existence and the destroyer of ego and desire (Manobhava). He is the mysterious ascetic of great vows, hidden within the depths of divine Maya. As Sharva, the auspicious one, the perfect yogi, the destroyer of Tripura, and the master of time, Shiva bestows supreme knowledge and liberation.

He transcends time, radiates natural purity, and crushed the demon Andhaka. He is beyond all qualities yet the refuge of everyone. He creates, sustains, and dissolves multiple universes, distributing appropriate results to all beings. At the end of creation, He remains as the indestructible eye of truth, the witness of all karmas.

Shiva’s infinite forms, His unbearable wrath and infinite compassion, His crescent moon, His peaceful and fierce manifestations—all highlight His supreme divinity. As the rider of Nandi, the destroyer of Tripura, and the great celestial medicine, He fulfills the desires of devotees and removes all forms of suffering.

Rati Devi humbly surrenders to Shiva, declaring Him the only refuge in all worlds. She prays for prosperity, glory, and restoration of her beloved Kama. She acknowledges Shiva as the Lord of the universe, compassionate and responsive to devotees’ fears and longings. The hymn ends with total surrender at the lotus feet of Mahesha.
