Lingashtakam

The “Lingashtakam” glorifies the Shiva Lingam—not as a mere symbol, but as the very essence of creation, dissolution, purity, and divine consciousness. Each verse praises the Lingam as the supreme form worshipped by gods, sages, and celestial beings.

The hymn begins by describing the Lingam worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and all devas—pure, radiant, and capable of destroying the sorrows of repeated birth. It is the compassionate form that burns desires, removes ego, and destroyed Ravana’s pride.

The Lingam is adorned with sacred fragrances, enhances intelligence, and is revered by siddhas, gods, and even demons. It shines with golden ornaments, precious gems, and the coiled serpent-king, symbolizing cosmic energy. It is the power that destroyed Daksha’s arrogant sacrifice.

Smeared with kumkum and sandal paste, decorated with lotus garlands, the Lingam destroys accumulated karmas and purifies the soul. It is served with devotion by the celestial hosts and radiates like millions of suns, removing inner darkness.

Surrounded by the eight sacred bilva leaves, the Lingam is the cause of all creation and destroys eight kinds of poverty—physical, mental, financial, spiritual, and more. Worshipped by Brihaspati and revered in all celestial gardens, the Lingam represents the highest Supreme Reality—the absolute Brahman.

Finally, the hymn declares that whoever recites the Lingashtakam in the presence of Shiva attains Shiva-loka and eternal bliss.
