Devacharya Krita Shiva Stuti

This “Shiva Stuti” by Devacharya (narrated by Āṅgīrasa) is a gentle yet profound hymn praising Lord Shiva’s purity, compassion, cosmic form, and supreme grace. It highlights Shiva as the destroyer of suffering, the giver of fearlessness, and the refuge of all beings.

The first verse salutes Shiva as the radiant, moon-like, ever-pure and all-auspicious Lord whose grace removes the suffering and sins of devotees. His gentle glow comforts the entire universe.

The second verse portrays Shiva as the destroyer of sorrows, the purifier of forests of sin, the one with countless divine deeds, the radiant one whose courage dries up the arrows of desire.

The third verse declares Shiva as the beginningless, endless, all-pervading Lord whose form fills the universe. He is praised by mountains, supported by naga ornaments, and worshipped by Parvati.

The fourth verse extols His three-world-encompassing form, His fire-like gaze, His dominion over ghosts and ganas, and His compassion for even the fallen beings who seek refuge.

The fifth verse praises Shiva as the embodiment of Omkara, the moon-bearing Lord, the beloved of Parvati, and the one who fills all directions with divine tranquility.

The sixth verse describes Him as the protector who removes obstacles to devotion, the supreme deity who rules the three worlds with grace and power.

The seventh verse shows the devotee turning completely to Shiva for protection, trusting only in His feet and fearing no sin or karmic burden because Shiva’s grace purifies all.

The eighth verse states that devotion to Shiva alone removes all impurities. Even those lacking qualities or strength are uplifted by His grace — His fire destroys bondage.

The phalaśruti reveals that Shiva granted Devacharya great blessings: he would become revered as Brihaspati among the wise, be known as “Jīva,” and become the master of speech. Further, one who recites this hymn thrice daily for three years gains purified, powerful speech.
