Surya Grahana Shanti Parihara Sloka

These sacred verses are recited to seek protection from the subtle cosmic disturbances caused during a solar or lunar eclipse. The Shanti verse invokes the guardians of the universe—Indra, Agni, Yama, Varuna, Vayu, Kubera, Rudra—and prays that any negative impact falling upon one’s birth star or zodiac sign during an eclipse be pacified. The prayer requests harmony, restored vitality, and removal of unseen disturbances affecting the body, mind, and environment.

The Grahana Peeda Parihara section invokes eight divine forces. Indra with his thunderbolt, Agni with seven flames, Yama as the witness of karma, Nirrti as the destroyer of harmful energies, Varuna as the lord of the waters, Vayu as the life-giver, Kubera as guardian of wealth, and Rudra as the powerful destroyer of impurities — each deity is prayed to dispel the doshas, suffering, and negative vibrations arising during a solar or lunar eclipse. Scriptures state that eclipses temporarily affect natural rhythms, prana circulation, food vitality, emotional sensitivity, and planetary balance, hence these shlokas act as a spiritual shield.
