Meaning
The Vishnu Vijaya Stotram from the Padma Purana is a powerful hymn chanted by the gods to praise Lord Vishnu, the supreme cause of creation, sustenance, and dissolution. They bow to Him who existed before all worlds, from whose navel the lotus-born Brahma emerged, and who governs all realms with divine authority.
The gods praise the Lord’s incarnations—Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, and Vamana—each taken to protect the universe and uplift dharma. They glorify Rama who destroyed Ravana, Krishna who killed demonic forces, Buddha who bewildered the wicked, and Kalki who will end the age of adharma. The Lord assumes different forms in every yuga solely for the welfare of creation and for the destruction of evil.
Hiranyaksha, who once terrified the guardian deities, was slain by Vishnu solely for the protection of the universe. They acknowledge Him as the creator in His Brahma-form, the sustainer in His Vishnu-form, and the destroyer in His fire-like cosmic form.
The hymn emphasizes that everything—past, present, and future—is Vishnu alone. He is the form of all existence, all movement, and all stillness. Nothing shines without Him. Even ideas such as “existence” and “nonexistence” arise from His cosmic play. Such a supreme reality cannot be grasped by an immature mind; thus the gods surrender at His feet.
Finally, Vyasa narrates that Vishnu, pleased by this praise, blesses the gods and declares that whoever recites this Vishnu Vijaya Stotram with devotion will obtain anything desired in all three worlds. Listening to or chanting this stotram grants the result equal to gifting a hundred thousand cows. It is ever auspicious, all-desire-fulfilling, and leads towards the highest wisdom.
