Sri Surya Stavaraja Stotram

The “Sri Surya Stavaraaja Stotram,” found in the Brahma-vaivarta Purana, is described as the king of hymns dedicated to the Sun God—an extremely potent stotra that removes diseases, sins, poverty, suffering, and negativity. Brahma begins by calling it a Sama-Vedic hymn capable of destroying illness and granting wealth and health.

The Sun is praised as the supreme, eternal, radiant Brahman—the source of all creation, the giver of the fruits of tapas, the destroyer of sin, and the supporter of all beings. He grants results according to karma, yet also showers compassion on devotees. He embodies the combined essence of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, and removes disease, grief, delusion, and fear. He grants happiness, liberation, devotion, and all desired blessings.

The Sun is the witness to all actions, the lord of all forms, visible to all beings and yet inwardly subtle and charming. He is the giver of all siddhis, the master of perfected beings, and the supreme guru of all spiritual powers.

The stotra declares itself exceedingly secret and powerful. Reciting it three times daily during the three sandhyas destroys illnesses, blindness, skin diseases, poverty, fear, sorrow, and the effects of Kali Yuga. Even severe conditions—leprosy, blindness, ulcers, lung diseases (yakshma), chronic pain—are cured when the listener performs a simple vow of eating havisya food for one month while hearing or reciting the hymn. It grants the merit of bathing in all holy rivers.
