Meaning

One hundred and eight names of Shukra, Venus among the grahas, opening Om Shukraaya Namah. Shukra means bright, white, clear. Behind the planet stands Shukracharya, son of Bhrigu and acharya of the asuras, who alone held the mrita-sanjivani vidya — the knowledge that raised the dead — and who lost an eye when Vamana pierced the water-spout he had blocked to stop Bali's gift.

Significance

Shukra is the graha of what makes life pleasant and what binds people to each other: marriage, love, beauty, music and the arts, vehicles, comfort, and in a man's chart the wife — he is the kalatra karaka.
