Sri Kamalapati Ashtakam

Sri Kamalapaty Ashtakam beautifully glorifies Lord Vishnu, the consort of Lakshmi, and emphasizes the fleeting nature of worldly life. It urges human beings to devote their minds and hearts to the feet of the Lord. Vishnu is depicted as the one reclining on the serpent bed, riding Garuda, holding the chakra, conch, mace, and lotus — the eternal, enchanting protector.

His divine form, adorned with soft curls, shining yellow garments, and Lakshmi Devi on His left side, delights the heart of the devotee. No amount of austerity, rituals, sacrifices, or even the study of scriptures can equal the benefit of sincerely worshipping Him.

Human birth is extremely rare and even desired by celestial beings. When such a precious life is attained, one must turn away from worldly pleasures and offer devotion to the Lord. Wealth, youth, relatives — none accompany us beyond death; only the Lord remains the true refuge.

All things in this world, including our youth and possessions, are unstable and temporary. The body itself is fragile, disease-prone, and perishable. Realizing this, one must immediately seek refuge in Kamalapati. The great sages meditate upon Him always, and even Shiva and Brahma praise Him. He alone grants freedom from the fear of birth, death, and old age. One who recites this sacred Ashtakam with devotion surely attains the abode of Vishnu.
