Sri Hari Ashtakam (Prahlada Krutam)

Sri Hari Ashtakam is a profound hymn describing the power of the divine name “Hari”, composed by Prahlada. The first verse establishes that the name “Hari,” even remembered casually, unintentionally, or by a sinful mind, destroys sins just as fire burns anything that touches it.

The second verse declares that the two syllables “Ha-Ri” give the fruits of sacred pilgrimages like Ganga, Gaya, Setu, Kashi and Pushkara—simply when the name dwells on one’s tongue. Any act done while uttering this name becomes as meritorious as the greatest of rites.

The hymn further states that all holy places, sacred shrines, and pious rivers scattered across the earth are contained within the glory of this single name. Donations equal to thousands of golden cows, or great charities, become equivalent to merely chanting “Hari” once.

The Vedas—Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharva—are considered fully mastered by one who utters this name once. Immense sacrifices like Ashvamedha or Nara-medha are equalled by the divine name.

The name “Hari” becomes the provision for the final journey of life, removing the diseases of samsara and rescuing the soul from the ocean of sorrow. One who utters it even once gains protective armor on the path toward liberation.

The phalashruti promises that reciting Hari Ashtakam daily grants long life, strength, health, prosperity, fame, and overall well-being. And most importantly, the devotee attains the supreme abode of Vishnu.
