Sri Bhaskara Saptakam (Sapta Sapti Saptaka Stotram)

The Bhaskara Saptakam beautifully praises the seven-fold brilliance, seven powers, and seven divine expressions of Lord Surya. He is the lion that tears apart the darkness, adorned with countless rays, removing ignorance and illuminating the world with immeasurable light. As Vasareshvara, Divakara, Prabhakara, and Vibhavasu, he sustains the universe with his radiance.

He is worshipped by yakshas, siddhas, kinnaras, devas, sages, and seers. With his golden glow, Surya is the primordial deity and the eye of the universe. The earth itself was created and continues to be sustained by his energy. The world dissolves back into him as well, for he is the light of lights.

As Anshumalin, Saptasapti, the giver of intelligence, strength, and immortality-like vitality, Surya is praised in his Vishnu-form, adorned with the conch and discus. His rays brighten the sky, nurture life, and fill the world with joy. His divine radiance removes sorrow and fills the devotee with bliss.

Surya is the destroyer of darkness and disease. He removes physical, mental, and karmic impurities, granting strength, courage, wisdom, and happiness. As the friend of the chakravaka birds and the one who enhances the lotus-like beauty of the universe, he is the compassionate lord of all beings.

The final verse proclaims that one who recites this Saptakam daily with devotion has his ignorance destroyed, becomes healthy, radiant, and peaceful. Surya himself removes all afflictions and grants clarity, purity, and divine protection.
