Meaning

Sri Adishesha Stavam glorifies Adishesha, the eternal servant and divine companion of Lord Vishnu. The hymn describes him as the majestic serpent with a thousand hoods, shining with countless jewels, forming the divine seat, canopy, and couch of Sri Hari. His very being radiates purity and spiritual brilliance, symbolizing infinite strength, devotion, and surrender.

He serves as Vishnu’s throne, umbrella, bed, and resting couch, adapting to every divine need of the Lord. As Lakshmana, Adishesha performed perfect service to Lord Rama, embodying unwavering devotion. As the serpent who entered Devaki’s womb to protect Krishna, and as the one who shielded Vasudeva during Krishna’s secret transfer to Gokula, he is praised for his extraordinary loyalty.

Adishesha is also remembered as the divine backdrop for Radha–Krishna’s sacred meetings in Vrindavan, illuminating the groves with the light of his jeweled hoods. In Srirangam he becomes the serpent bed of Ranganatha, and as Sheshadri he becomes the sacred hill of Lord Venkateswara. His very nature is pure consciousness, destroying illusion and ignorance in spiritual seekers.

He bears the marks of Vishnu’s feet on his hoods, reminding all devotees that the highest honour is to hold the Lord’s feet upon one’s own head. Those who serve the Lord with humility, just like Adishesha, shed worldly attachments like old snakes shed their skin. The stavam concludes by assuring that one who recites it daily with devotion will be protected from serpents, blessed with children, and become dear to the Lord.

Benefits:
• Protection from serpents, fears, obstacles, and negativity
• Strengthens devotion, humility, and selfless service
• Enhances spiritual clarity and dissolves ignorance
• Grants family welfare, progeny, and divine grace
