Manu Krutha Surya Stuti

The “Sri Surya Stuti” composed by Manu praises the Sun as the supreme, all-pervading, radiant deity who grants boons, destroys sins, and sustains the universe. Manu describes the Sun as Varenya—the most exalted, the giver of blessings, the infinite one adorned with rays, and the embodiment of divine light.

He is the eye of the three worlds, the essence of the three gunas, and the source of immortality. The Sun is hailed as the cause of creation, the lord of dharma, the cosmic swan, the knower of all beings, and the manifestation of the Trimurti through his seven-horsed chariot.

The hymn further identifies him with the sacred vyāhṛtis—Bhūḥ, Bhuvaḥ, Svaḥ—thus establishing his connection with the Vedas and cosmic order. He is the swift-moving Hari-ashva, the lord riding the green steeds, the one who dwells in countless forms, and the wielder of infinite power.

The Sun is also glorified as the embodiment of the three divine energies, as Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and the lord of day. He is Om, the sacrificial sound, the essence of Svaha and Svadha, the source of all yajñas and offerings. Manu concludes by saying that apart from the Sun, he perceives no other supreme deity capable of bestowing liberation and cosmic order.
