Meaning
This single verse beautifully encapsulates the entire Mahabharata in a compact summary. It begins with the birth of the Pandavas and Kauravas, then recalls the burning of the house of lac, the gambling match that led to Draupadi’s humiliation, their exile to the forest, and their incognito life in the kingdom of Matsya.
It continues with the episode of cattle capture (Gograhanam), the subsequent battles, and the failed peace negotiations by Krishna. The verse concludes with the great war that led to the fall of Bhishma, Duryodhana, and other warriors.
In one elegant shloka, the essence of dharma, adharma, destiny, devotion, and the moral lessons of the Mahabharata are preserved, helping the reader grasp its spiritual significance quickly.
Benefits:
• Quick understanding of the Mahabharata’s core narrative
• Enhances memory and scriptural interest
• Helps reflect on dharma, righteousness, and life lessons
• Inspires deeper study of Bhagavad Gita and Itihasas
