Meaning

The Bhagavan Manasa Puja is one of the finest illustrations of inner worship described by Adi Shankaracharya. Instead of offering flowers, water, and incense externally, the devotee offers them all within the temple of the heart. The entire hymn transforms the inner mind into a sacred shrine where Krishna Himself is invited, adored, and worshipped.

The Lord is visualized with a dark-blue raincloud complexion, lotus-like eyes, adorned with garlands, bracelets, crown, and flute, surrounded lovingly by the Gopikas. The devotee invites Him from the ocean of milk to the gem-studded golden throne prepared in the heart. Water, flowers, and sacred items are mentally offered with purity and reverence.

The hymn continues with offering bath, garments, sacred thread, sandal paste, garlands, incense, lamp, and naivedyam—all through inner visualization. Krishna is lovingly fed milk, ghee, fruits, sweets, and then given cool water to drink. The devotee sweeps His feet with fragrant powders and offers tambula (betel leaves).

With intense devotion, aromatic flowers like tulasi and bilva are placed mentally at His lotus feet. The devotee performs four mental circumambulations by contemplating the divine deeds of the Lord. Then he offers dance, music, prayer, and prostrations, acknowledging his own shortcomings and asking the Lord to complete the worship.

The final verse describes the ever-charming child Krishna playing with butter and flute, lovingly surrounded by His consorts—reminding the devotee to keep this sweet form always in the heart.

This stotram is a complete manual of inner worship—pure, profound, and transformative.

Benefits:
• Deepens meditation, awareness, and inner purity
• Cultivates intimate connection with Krishna
• Reduces mental restlessness, brings inner calm
• Powerful for devotees who cannot perform external rituals
