Sri Suryarya Stotram (Yajnavalkya Krutham)

The “Sri Surya Arya Stotram,” composed by Sage Yajnavalkya, is one of the most poetic and spiritually charged hymns dedicated to the Sun God. The stotram begins by describing Surya as a radiant cosmic orb, glowing like a flock of swans or a lotus forest, symbolizing purity, beauty and the supreme light of consciousness.

In the second verse, even the great three-eyed Lord Shiva joins his palms at the moment of sunrise, showing the supreme radiance and divine status of Surya — the treasure-house of all brilliance.

Surya is praised as the crest-jewel of the sky, the crown-gem of the directions, and the source of delight for all beings. His rays dissolve darkness, illuminate the worlds and awaken creation. The rising Sun evokes blossoming in lotuses, energizes creatures and reveals all realms.

His golden heat burns away sins and impurities of Kali Yuga. The imagery of the seven green horses pulling his chariot shows Surya’s power to set the cosmic rhythm in motion. Surya alone causes the entire world to open and function; without his rise, nothing awakens.

The seven “Arya” verses, believed to have descended in Sambapura, are said to grant unfailing Lakshmi blessings to those who wear or recite them. Reciting these seven verses seven times on Saptami brings wealth, health and unbroken prosperity.

This hymn is described as a treasure for the poor, a supreme medicine for the sick, and a source of accomplishment for all undertakings.
