Sri Kumara Kavacham

Sri Kumara Kavacham is a powerful protective hymn addressed to Lord Skanda/Kartikeya/Subrahmanya. The devotee praises the Lord as the remover of bondage, destroyer of evil, giver of both spiritual and material prosperity, and the supreme refuge for all beings.

Meaning (Balanced):
The devotee begins with the invocation:
“O Lord who frees beings from worldly bondage, who protects true devotees, I surrender to You.”

The hymn praises Kartikeya as:

• Born in the sacred Saravana, the embodiment of divine power
• Master of Yoga and giver of worldly fulfilment
• Radiant with jewels, accompanied by Devasena
• Wielder of weapons — spear, trident, mace, sword, noose, goad and more
• Protector of all beings who have surrendered
• Holder of the entire universe within His being
• Ever-pure, eternal, omniscient, untouched by duality
• Beyond mind and speech, supreme peace and fullness
• Destroyer of fear, sin and karmic suffering

Towards the end, the devotee prays intensely:
“Remove my debts, illnesses, enemies and suffering. Lift me from the fear of hell and the cycle of birth. Grant me long life, strength, prosperity and liberation. O compassionate Lord, bless me with Your grace.”
