Shadanana Ashtakam

Shadanana Ashtakam is a sacred hymn spoken by Sage Agastya, praising Lord Shanmukha (Kartikeya) in His six-faced divine form. Each verse glorifies His compassion, power, knowledge, and His role as the destroyer of evil and protector of devotees.

Agastya describes the Lord as the six-faced One who radiates like the moon, revered by devas, and born from the heart of Parvati. He is the fulfiller of wishes, destroyer of Tarakasura, and the supreme warrior who protects the universe.

He is both formless and with form, with countless manifestations, the Supreme beyond qualities, and the embodiment of tapas. He grants the fruits of austerity and stands above worldly desires.

The hymn praises Him as the divine child whose brilliance resembles the rising sun, the conqueror of the three worlds, beyond birth and death. He is Visakha, Gangeya, Kartikeya, and the beloved son of Mahadeva. The final verse salutes Him as the protector of all, slayer of Asuras, and the eternal refuge for seekers.
