Meaning

1–2. Agastya–Hayagriva Dialogue:
Sage Agastya asks Lord Hayagriva to teach him the sacred protective armor of Goddess Lalita. Hayagriva replies that the Lalita Kavacha bestows all success and divine blessings when recited with devotion.

3–8. The Divine Protection:
Each verse invokes Goddess Lalita in her various forms to protect every part of the devotee’s body —
    •    Madhumati guards the head,
    •    Bhavani the brows,
    •    Pushpashara the eyes,
    •    Bala, Sundari, Chakreshi, Kameshwari, Kamakshi, and Simhasaneswari guard the limbs and organs.
The divine energy flows through every part of the devotee, forming a spiritual armor of light.

9–10. Protection by Time and Grace:
At dawn, noon, dusk, and night, the Goddess appears as Para, Manigrihanta, Sharvani, and Bhairavi — offering round-the-clock protection. She safeguards the devotee’s family, honor, virtue, and life span through her infinite compassion.

11–12. Divine Essence:
She is the embodiment of the five elements — air, fire, earth, ether, and water — and the union of sun, moon, prana, and Shiva. She manifests as Kali, Bhairavi, Matangi, Vagdevata, and Bhuvaneshwari, shielding the world in every form.

13–17. Meditative Vision:
Those who meditate upon her crimson form with a gentle smile and radiant eyes receive her merciful glances that wash away sins. Her beauty, resplendent like molten gold, grants longevity, peace, and wisdom to her devotees.

18–19. Fruits of Recitation:
This hymn, composed in divine syllables, is so powerful that even Lord Shiva cannot fully describe its merits. Without elaborate rituals or offerings, simple chanting of this Kavacha with devotion grants all spiritual accomplishments.
